Documents Required for Birth Registration in Nepal

Note: If the birth is registered at the concerned ward office within 35 days of the child’s birth, the janmadarta registration tax is waived.

Who can register the Birth in Nepal?

1. The father or mother can register the birth of their child.
2. If there is no father or mother, the child’s other family members who are 18 years of age or older can register the birth of the child.
3. If there is no one to register the birth of the child, the head of the relevant ward office or municipality can register the birth as the main informant.
4. If the father is lost, the mother can register the birth of the child in her name.
5. A foreigner born in Nepal can register the birth of the child with proof of birth in Nepal.

Correction of Birth Certificate ( Janmadarta ) in Nepal

To correct the birth certificate in Nepal, the application should be given to the concerned ward office as per Schedule 26 of the National ID and Civil Registration Rules of 2077. The provision related to the birth certificate correction is given in rule 23 (1) of the National ID and Civil Registration Rules of 2077.

Birth Registration of Foreigners in Nepal – Janmadarta Law in Nepal for Foreigners

1. The original Passport of the foreigner is required.
2. The evidence of the birth of the child, such as a hospital card or a vaccine card from Nepal, is required.
3. The recommendation letter from the concerned ward office mentioning that the concerned foreigner is living in Nepal.

Birth Registration after Divorce in Nepal

If the child custody is with the mother after the divorce, the birth of the child can be registered at the permanent address of the mother. For that, it should be ensured that the birth registration is not done from the permanent address of the father previously. If the birth registration has not been done at the address of the father, the concerned ward office of the mother can register the birth of her child.
